HOT AIR BALLOON FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q. How high will we fly? A. Generally only “tree-top” to 1,000 feet or so.
Q. How fast and how far will we go? A. This depends on the wind speed totally. We are usually up about an hour, so the wind speed determines how far we will go in that time.
Q. Will it be cold or windy? A. NO! Because we do not fly extremely high, the temperature will be about what it is on the ground; and because we fly “with the wind,” you will not feel any wind in your face.
Q. How do you steer a balloon? A. The pilot is well trained to determine the wind directions at different altitudes and thus find a wind going the direction desired.
Q. Will the landing be bumpy? A. Not unless the winds increase in speed while in flight; but the “bumps” generally are only small ones and easily absorbed by the balloon basket and bending one’s knees on landing.
Q. Why do we fly so early in the morning? A. This is the time of day when we have the most stable and steerable winds.
